Wildlife in Fishers Indiana
Who'd have guessed there was so much wildlife in Fishers Indiana?
This rich suburb is known more for their schools and golf courses.
But our back yard has been alive all spring!
It helped that as soon as we moved in we took out a strip of lawn and planted the famous Brixton prairie.
This prairie has provided food for birds and butterflies, shelter for the bunnies, and a hiding place for our cat.
We've had the adventure this spring of watching the red-winged blackbirds build their nest in the cat-tails along the pond.
First little blue eggs...
Then scrawny baby birds...
And today... they flew the nest!
Guarded closely by their very loud father, three baby birds fluttered bravely from one cattail to the other.
And to protect them, I kept Dusty inside today.
Dusty has loved our wild backyard...
He stalks our ducks...
And chases our bunnies.
Here in Fishers we've had ducks in our garden...
...and Canada Geese on our pond.
We've enjoyed occasional visits from great blue herons...
...and a rare swoop of a white heron.
But my favorite wildlife visitor so far has been my early morning encounter...
I was down by the pond practicing sunrises, when I spotted a stir in the still waters...
And there, willow branch in tow, was a beaver swimming up-pond to the 8th green.
Good thing we put a fence around our willow!
It is surprising the wildlife you can find...
...even in Fishers, Indiana.

awesome red-winged blackbird picture must have had a professional take that =P I think the ducks in the garden is a really pretty pic with the mist!
Very nice pics, etc! We also live on a golf course in Indy...see foxes, deer, hawks, too. And...a coyote :( ick.
Great photos! And so much wildlife. I love finding wild plants and animals in places I am not expecting.
Have you ever been to a Nature Family Summit? A nature camp for kids, parents, teens and grandfolk. It's the best thing we ever did for our kids?
